How to test water for fish safety at home without pH sticks?
I recently bought a new fish tank and i want to put my new fish in it. But i cant test the water without the pH sticks. Is there a home remedy for going about this ?
The pH is not for testing for safety. it is a characteristic of your tap water. As organic waste dissolves in the old aquarium water, the pH drops. So what you are testing for is a change over time, not a particular "ideal" pH.
You can look at the report the water company sends you periodically with your bill or ask them the pH of your tap water. They have no problem explaining to you over the phone what it would be.
There are no household chemicals you can use to test for pH.
